Our History
Members First Community Credit Union was chartered in February of 1954 by other directors of local credit unions in the Adams, Brown, Pike and Schuyler counties in Illinois. At the time, Credit Union Directors were not permitted to borrow from their own Credit Union. As a result, Directors from these credit unions were forced to obtain financial services through other financial institutions.
To counteract this, the Quincy Chapter Credit Union began operations. This enabled Directors of other Credit Unions to borrow from the Quincy Chapter Credit Union. Since membership was limited to Credit Union Directors, employees and families, our growth was quite modest. Over the years, several company credit unions merged and created a unified community charter that would better service its members.
Throughout several years, Members First Community Credit Union has come a long way in becoming a full-service financial institution by expanding products and services beyond traditional savings and loans. These products and services – checking accounts, ATM/debit cards, electronic payments & debits, just to name a few – were designed to be affordable to all members while maintaining competitive dividends on savings, checking, certificates, and IRAs. We serve around 7,000 members through two (2) locations and seven (7) ATMs.
If you are already a member, remember – this is YOUR credit union! Please take advantage of all of the benefits that come with membership in the Members First Community Credit Union.
